Why the insufflation of C02 is recommended:
To start with the insufflation of C02 is recommended for the patient’s security. The utilized device measures constantly the pressure inside the colon and so prevents from overpressure.

An overpressure will be simply painful in a healthy patient, but can be dangerous in an ill or frail patient or a patient with a colon blockage pathology.

The C02 insufflation is also painless. Indeed the insufflator injects C02 with an insufflation curve that first removes delicately the colon before actually inflating it. This first removal step is generally very painful if it is done too quickly.

After the insufflation the air remains in the colon and creates spasms that are more or less painful according to each patient and that can last several hours or until the following day.

Finally, an air insufflation is more violent and often creates painful spasms. The colon contracts and stays closed at some points. These spasms do not allow the radiologist to observe the contracted portion of the colon which is usually not enough insufflated after the spasm.

Why prefer VMX-1000A ?
